- Replace the air filter and oil filter, or at least seal the intake. A clean filter stops dust from settling on valves. Cap the intake and exhaust with plastic and desiccant.
- Seal all openings. Close the inlet, outlet, drains, and electrical-box vents. Add a desiccant bag inside the control cabinet.
- Turn the air end by hand monthly, if the manufacturer permits. This redistributes oil and keeps bearings from taking a set. Never rotate under power with the disconnect engaged.
- Store in a dry, vibration-free room. Keep ambient temperature above the dew point or use a cabinet heater. Avoid direct sunlight and washdown areas.
- Disconnect and label power. Isolate the breaker, remove the controller battery if required, and attach a tag with storage date, oil type, and next action.
Before You Restart
Do not simply press start after storage. Check the oil level, look for emulsion or water in the sight glass, and drain a sample from the separator. If the sample is milky or smells burnt, change the oil and filters first. Inspect the drive coupling, rotate the air end by hand, and verify that the controller has no lost-time faults. A restart after long storage should run unloaded for 10–15 minutes, then under load while you watch discharge temperature and oil pressure.
